3 NEOMED Students to run 75 miles to raise money and awareness for Parkinson’s Research

This weekend, 3 Northeast Ohio Medical University students will take on a 75 mile ultra-marathon with the goal of raising $50,000 for Parkinson’s Research.

John and I are excited to go cheer on these 3 future physicians as they run 75 at the Tuscazoar 75 Ultra-Marathon. We will try to keep up with them for a few miles as they start their second 25 mile loop sometime early Saturday afternoon.

Meeting them a few months ago, brought back so many memories of my medical school days, when my entire social life revolved around training for races.

It is great to see our next generation of physicians leading by example and making time for fitness, exercise, fun and advocacy.

NEOMED Students Hunter Bonfiglio, Alex Keith and Nick Sciarretti will run 75 mile endurance event.

NEOMED Story

Support NEOMED Parkinson’s Research – Dr. Sheila Fleming is doing groundbreaking work, studying the changes that take place in the brains of Parkinsonian rats in those that spend time on the treadmill vs those that do not.

Exercise is the only thing that has been found to slow the progression of the disease. By studying what is happening in the brain that causes this, perhaps we can find other modalities to slow the progression or perhaps cure Parkinson’s.
